Welcome to our practice! We hope this web site better acquaints you with our specialized area of Allergy, Asthma, and Immunology. We are committed to staying on the cutting-edge of the latest treatments and technologies, and are dedicated to keeping you thoroughly informed.
When you have an initial consultation at Saint Clair Allergy and Asthma Center, you can expect a comprehensive evaluation of your condition. Located in the New Patients section of our web site, you will find our Patient Forms page. On this page are the required medical forms you will need to complete and bring with you to your first appointment. Completed forms will help us address your specific concerns. Completing these forms in advance will save time and allow us to spend more time answering your questions and completing the clinical examination. Please plan on your initial appointment taking between 2 to 2-1/2 hours.
We will begin with a history of your medical conditions, including any allergy, asthma, or immunologic problems. Please obtain and bring with you any medical records that would be clinically useful (e.g. skin test results, laboratory reports, biopsies, x-rays, etc.) Once all the necessary health history information is collected and reviewed, your physician will discuss any tests that may need to be performed to help identify the underlying problem. This may involve x-rays, blood tests, and/or skin tests. In patients with suspected or diagnosed asthma or chronic obstructive pulmonary disease, lung function testing may be done. This procedure, called spirometry, is a rapid non-invasive measurement of your lung function and helps determine what therapies are indicated for you.
Allergy skin testing to airborne and/or food allergens can assist the doctor in diagnosing your condition. In order to obtain the most accurate results from the allergy skin testing, all forms of antihistamines must be stopped for 7 days prior to the test. (A list of antihistamines is found here for your reference.) This does not include inhalers, topical steroids, or prednisone. If antihistamines are taken within 7 days of your appointment, please contact our office because we may be required to reschedule your appointment. Also, please do not apply lotions, perfume, or cologne the day of testing.
After all the test results have been reviewed, we will speak with you about your symptoms, your diagnosis, and our recommendations for treatment. In return, we encourage you to ask any questions you may have before, during, and after your visit with us.
Our office will collect all co-pays, co-insurance, and deductibles at the time of your visit. We accept all major credit cards, cash, and checks. Please check with your insurance company prior to your visit regarding coverage for allergy testing.
